Climbing Classes
Climbing Classes
All classes may be booked 7 days a week using the booking window at the bottom of this page, over the phone, or in person at our facility. All classes are required to be booked at least 24 hours in advance in most cases.
Movement and Technique (Ages 12+ years old)
$49/module for members | $59/module for non-members. Our Movement and Technique classes are designed for climbers of any level who wish to improve their climbing skills and knowledge. There are three Movement and Technique modules that will each focus on different aspects of climbing, such as footwork, body position, balance, and routereading. The classes will be kept small so the instructor can provide direct feedback and work with each participant at their own pace. Classes are offered on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. All bookings are required to be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Intro to Climbing (For Adults or Kids)
$29 for members | $39 for non-members. 1 1/2 hours long. Want to climb, but unsure where to start? Beginning anything new can be intimidating, but our professional instructors are here to guide you through the first steps to getting on the wall, and gaining the confidence you need to join in on the fun. Participants will learn about difficulty ratings, types of climbing holds, the basics of falling properly, how to move on the wall, and what to keep an eye out for when you’re in the climbing gym. Regardless if you’re a kid or an adult, this is a great way to get your bearings to begin moving in the right direction. Intro to Climbing is offered 7 days a week. All bookings are required to be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Top Rope Belay Certification
(Ages 12+ years old)
$15 members | $29 non-member. 1 – 1 1/2 hours long (depending on class size). Belaying is one of the fundamental skills required to build a safe, stable foundation in gym climbing. Participants will learn the basics of rope management and communication while belaying their climber in a gym top rope setting, and will be subject to a test at the end of the course. Should the participant pass the test, they will be allowed to belay other climbers while using the top rope anchor systems in Gripstone (as opposed to relying exclusively on using the autobelays). We recommend that participants sign up in groups of two or more (up to four), as it provides for easier instruction and comprehension. Top Rope Belay Certification is offered 7 days a week. All bookings are required to be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Already know how to belay? You can get a check-off! Check-offs take around 5 minutes (you either know it or you don’t!) and just need to be requested to any staff member available. There is no cost, though if you need a “refresher,” we recommend that you take the class, as may take some time depending on how long it’s been since you’ve last belayed, and what you may have forgotten.
Lead 101
(Ages 14+ years old)
$79 members | $99 non-members. 2 sessions, 6 hours long total. This class will instruct the participants on the intricacies of rope management and safety considerations on the climber end and more importantly, the belayer end while lead climbing and belaying in Gripstone. Unlike the top rope belaying class, there are some climbing experience-based requirements whereby the participants must be able to climb at least 5 routes in the gym (all 5.8 or harder) in a session without falling or resting on the rope, as well as the ability to climb a 5.9 without falling or resting on a rope. All participants must be at least 14 years old or older. After completion of the class, participants will be eligible to test for Gripstone Lead Certification on another day (any day other than the instruction day). Lead 101 is offered 7 days a week. All bookings are required to be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Gym to Crag
(Ages 18+ years old)
$175 members | $199 non-member. 8 hours long. Have you been dreaming about lead climbing outside? Then this is the class for you! Led by certified guides from The Colorado Climbing Company, this 8hr long (fully OUTDOORS) class will teach you the skills necessary to start climbing at the crag. As long as you bring your climbing shoes and a harness, all other equipment will be provided. Single participants or groups are welcome to sign up; however, a minimum of 2 participants are needed to run the class. Classes are offered on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Because this is a specialty class all bookings are required to be made at least 48 hours in advance.
