THE ENDURO SERIES
Sport Climbing League
We’re moving into roped comp season at Gripstone, and we’re stoked to introduce the 2nd part of our climbing leagues: the Enduro Series, a weekly, team based roped climbing competition built just for our members. Starting the week of October 26th, you and two teammates will take on six rope climbs each week for five weeks straight with the 6th week being the finals event. Come in anytime Monday through Sunday to log a score, and if you don’t send it first try, come back later in the week for another shot. That’s right! You can project the climbs to get the best score possible each week.
You’ll compete individually in one of three skill based categories, Recreational, Intermediate, or Advanced, while your team’s weekly score is built from everyone’s results combined. No team yet? Don’t worry, we’ll match you up with other individuals to make up a team to climb with. The season builds to a Finals event on Sunday, December 6th, held alongside our Member Appreciation Day, complete with a party, an exclusive raffle, and free food and drinks. All Enduro Series podium finishers will receive free membership and custom medals, and all Enduro Series competitors will receive extra raffle tickets for the GMAD raffle to bid on some prizes.
Grab your crew, mark your calendars, and get ready to try hard!
Pre-registration is now open

What is The Enduro Series?
The Enduro Series is a weekly series of low-key, team-focused, climbing competitions hosted by Gripstone which are open ONLY to Gripstone members. Starting the week of October 26th, participants will be able to compete throughout the week (as opposed to just one day) for the first 5 weeks. The season then culminates in a final event held on Sunday, December 6th that will coincide with the Member Appreciation Day climbing competition, After which we will present the season awards.
Custom Enduro Series medals will be awarded for the top 3 individual category (recreational / intermediate / advanced) podium finishers. Each member of the season’s top 3 Teams will also receive 1 month of FREE Gripstone membership!
When is it?
Participants are able to come in Monday – Sunday to get their score for that week. Climbers can project the designated climbs throughout the week to get the best score possible. For example, if you come in to compete on Tuesday morning, you are welcome to return to improve your score on Wednesday. While climbers are encouraged to climb with their team, you can also compete on separate days if schedules don’t align.
Week 1 – Monday, October 26th – Sunday, November 1st
Week 2 – Monday, November 2nd – Sunday, November 8th
Week 3 – Monday, November 9th – Sunday, November 15th
Week 4 – Monday, November 16th – Sunday, November 22nd
Week 5 – Monday, November 23rd – Sunday November 29th
Week 6 – FINALS Sunday, December 6th. No regular week competing.
For Finals: Finals climbs will be set on Friday December 4th. You can project from Friday to the end of the competition time on December 6th to get the best possible score.

Who can compete?
Current Gripstone Members, who are at least 14 years old, are welcome to participate in the Enduro Series. The 6-week competition will separate climbers into three different skill-based categories for individual scoring.
Categories (based on flash grade):
Recreational– 5.5 up to 5.9
Intermediate – 5.10- up to 5.11+
Advanced – 5.12- and up
*There are NO gender categories, it is ONLY skill-based.
**Membership must remain active for the duration of the entire season to be eligible to compete.
Why should I participate?
While this is a fun way to compete in a low-stress setting, there are some awesome prizes to win. The winning teams will win 1-3 months of free membership for each team member depending on finishing placement!
Those that pre-register will get an exclusive Gripstone Enduro Series Shirt on the first week of competing.
There will be a finals party (in conjunction with the Member Appreciation Day) on Sunday, December 6th. All Enduro Series participants will get the opportunity to participate in the EXCLUSIVE Enduro Series raffle as well as getting free food & drink.
How are categories determined?
We will be using Dynamic Bracketing. You sign up for the category you most align with but at the end of the season Brackets will be determined based on the data set of everyone’s scores. This means you can be bumped higher or dropped into a lower category if you are vastly outperforming or underperforming the category that you initially choose. This prevents “sandbagging” (people intentionally climbing easy to win lower categories) and promotes a more equitable competition.
There will be no category requirement in team registration. You can sign up as a team of 3 climbers.
Individual categories will be determined by the following (based on flash grade):
Recreational – 5.5 up to 5.9
Intermediate – 5.10- up to 5.11+
Advanced – 5.12- and up
*There are NO gender categories, it is ONLY skill-based
What is up with the team component?
Each team will consist of 3 members. We are lifting the team requirements. Find 2 other team members and make a team. It’s that simple. Teams will accrue points each week via the team members’ individual results. The final weekly score will be the average of the team members’ individual scores. We will use the weekly team scores to calculate the final season score.
*A Climber can ONLY be on ONE team, they may not be members of multiple teams.
**If you need help finding a team leave it to us! We will put together stragglers.
Format of each event?
There will be 6 Rope Climbs each week. Scoring will be points per hold based on the highest hold you control before falling. We will provide Route Maps so you can determine what your score is. Climbers are encouraged to attempt all of the Enduro Series climbs regardless of difficulty. This way you are rewarded for trying harder climbs. Climbers may project throughout the week, there is no penalty for falling. However, the number of attempts that it took a climber to get to their high point may be used to break ties. There is a 5 point bonus for flashing a climb (completing it on your first attempt). Each attempt should be from the (marked) Start to the (marked) Top in one attempt, without falling, or using holds or volumes that are not part of that climb. There is also a lead bonus available for those that are lead certified. Any climb that is led gives a bonus of 1 point per clip.
Your weekly score is the total points earned from all 6 Rope Climbs. Your season score is the summation of all of your weekly scores minus your lowest week’s score. (everyone gets a “drop week”)
Scoring
Every climb will be scored on an ascending points-per-hold basis: the higher you get on the climb, the higher your score for that climb. Your total at the end of the week will be the sum of the points accrued on every climb, so we highly encourage you to try them all!
You’ll be scored both as a team and as an individual in your respective category. Lead climbing is no longer required for advanced climbers, but a lead bonus will be applied to any climb completed while lead climbing.
Things to note:
Team Scoring: This will be the average of all three team members’ submitted scores.
Lead Bonus: You will receive +1 point for every quickdraw clipped on the route, up to a maximum of 8 per climb.
Flash Bonus: By sending a route on your first attempt (flashing the route), you will receive +5 points.
Drop Week: At the end of the season, we will drop your lowest-scored week. So you’re able to miss a week for time constraints, sickness, being out of town, etc. without affecting your individual or team scores.
