ABD POLICY

Policy Update at Gripstone

In order to align with climbing gym industry standards and best practices used across the United States, Gripstone is making some changes to our belaying policies that will go into effect on October 1, 2024. 

Specifically:

• Tube-style (or unassisted) belay devices are no longer approved for use while belaying in Gripstone.  
• ONLY Assisted Belay Devices are approved for use while belaying (Toprope and Lead) in Gripstone.  

Devices that will be accepted for belaying at Gripstone can be seen below: 

While all ABD’s are approved, we prefer that you learn and use a Petzel Gri-Gri when belaying at Gripstone.
